______________________
Picnic explores our complex relationship with the environment - both natural and artificial. This series of oil paintings creates a deep, dream-like space where conflicting objects find they must exist together.
Submerged in darkness, the subjects rest upon materials which endanger their very existence, yet hardly look out of place. The still life scenes are meticulously painted & then deliberately 'defaced' using quick, heavy brushstrokes which, without restraint, threaten to erase the vulnerable images completely.
Influenced by vanitas paintings, these works challenge the viewer to reflect on both our reverence for nature and the irreverent role we play in its destruction.
